Some hiking tips in and around Ramsau am DachsteinRamsauer Walk
A wonderful walk from Türlwandhütte to Brandalm and back to Ramsau. You take the bus up to the Valley Station from the glacier cable car and walk about 2 hours down to Ramsau Ort.
It’s worth for a stop:Brandalm (20 min.) or Dachsteinhaus (1 hour.)
The Riesach Waterfall
Riesach Waterfall is the tallest waterfall in Styria. From the Riesach car park in Untertal, the alpine trail “Durch die Hőll” takes you via a series of stairways and paths and over a suspension bridge, alongside the Riesach Waterfall to the Gfőllalm on the Riesachsee. This trail does require you be sure-footed and not have any dizziness issues, and from the suspension bridge on is not suitable for dogs or small children.
The car park is also the starting point for the popular high-alpine Klafferkessel hike, to the Preintaler and Golling huts. We recommend taking the hiking bus on nice days. The “Wild Waters” theme trail begins in Schladming and leads through wild, untamed Talbach Gorge to Untertal. The hiking path from Schladming along the Untertal is a rewarding hiking and walking experience for families and seniors. You can get on and off buses at numerous stops along the way.
Sonnenalm - Halseralm
Walk from the hotel to the ski jump where you start walking direction ‘west’ (to the right). This path is called the ‘Philosophenweg’ to the Greimelbacherhof.
From the Greimelbacherhof you walk about 45 minutes till you get to the Halseralm. The Halseralm is an about 400 year old farmer house – it’s still without electricity. The special offer from the house is still the flambéed Kaiserschmarrn.
If you still would like to go on to the Sonnenalm, the innkeeper Gerhard will play on his accordion and makes some nice jokes to entertain you. You can enjoy the very nice view to the Tauern from the sun terrace.
Ramsauer panorama avenue
This marvellous way will elate you! The round in the upper region is very sunny and you’ve got a very nice view. You walk down to the ‘ski jump’ where you turn right (towards west), cross the street at the main street after the Ederhof. Now you follow this beautiful way in direction east till you get to the Gruberstube – this is a lovely old farmer house where you could eat or drink something.
On the way home you can stop by at the Restaurant ‘Walcher’ where Monika, an earlier member of our staff, will welcome you!
Nickel Museum Rohrmoos
The Nickel Museum is a giant “walkable showcase” housing a permanent exhibition which impressively documents the mining tradition of the Schladming region. The central focus is on the processing and subsequent use of nickel, one and even now a highly sought-after metal. Traces of the past leave a lasting impression on visitors, while the extraordinarily dangerous work of the miners becomes clearly evident. The imp, whose name also happens to be “Nickel”, also injects extra life into the exhibition for kids, motivating them to learn even more.
Meeting point: at the Nickel Museum (Holdalm, Obertal Road)
Open: Every Wednesday 11 am to 3 pm.
Directions: CAR: Schladming – Rohrmoos – Obertal – Holdalm.
BUS: Planai Stadium – Schladming Railway Station – Obertal – Holdalm.
Free entry with the Sommercard
Bachlalm
A nice, relaxing hike shall take us to the “Bachlalm” today. There are some tame marmots awaiting you and they will love your apples, nuts and carrots! And you might even get them to be in the picture with you!
The hike will take about 4 – 5 hours: From the hotel you will walk up to the restaurant ‘Edelbrunn’, then on to ‘Gloesalm’ – Neustadtalm – Maralmboden – Bachlalm.
You can have a stop at the restaurant ‘Glösalm’ and also at the ‘Bachlalm’.
Bring enough to drink, maybe a little snack, good boots, rain gear and a dry T-Shirt to change.
Do bring the Sommercard for the Shuttle Bus.
Lodenwalke
Walk down to the ski jump and then turn left, in the direction to Ramsau-Kulm. Across the street at the Billa shop! Follow the path until you get to the Lodenwalke. There you can see how they make the famous ‘Loden’ and you can also buy high quality jackets, blankets, costumes …
For the way home you can take the bus!
Did you know…. … that the ‚Lodenwalke’ is the oldest Business in styria?
Records, contracts of purchase and tax payments can be traced as far back as 1434. Although the ownership has changed over the years, the business has always remained in the hands of local people. Around 1825 the "Steiner" family arrived at the Lodenwalke. The siblings, Susanne and Zacharias Walcher, worked together to run the Lodenwalke in Ramsau. Zacharia’s daughter Susanne met and married Johann Steiner, a famous mountaineer and mountain guide. They inherited the business upon Zacharia’s death. Susanne und Johann founded the present family.
Mirror Lake
You drive to Pichl/Enns – Preunegg exit, ca. 2.5 km towards Preunegg. The valley terminal of the gondola ‘Preunegg Jet’ is right on the Preunegg road.
Take the gondola up to the ‘Reiteralm’, right into the heart of the Reiteralm hiking and sightseeing area!
Start of numerous marked hiking paths. Highlight: Hiking path to “Mirror Lake” – reflection of the Dachstein. You can do a 3 summit tour: ‘Gasselhöhe’ – ‘Ripperteck’ – ‘Schober’. Beautiful !!! The ‘Preunegg Jet’ runs on Fridays only. Free ride with the Summercard.
Oberhofalm in Filzmoos
You go by car to Filzmoos – and the roundabout you go right until you come to the toll station. . There you leave you car and hike for about 1,5 hours through the “pedestrian zone” until you reach Oberhofalm. The old and cosy hut was built 1665 and invites for a stop. Here you can feel the great mountains of the Bischofsmütze very close. You can rest on the terrace or you can warm yourself up in the hut. Of course the hut offers great traditional food like Strudel or Kaiserschmarrn. After the rest you can walk the short way around the beautiful small lake.
Planai
Take: about an hour of walking time, open eyes, maybe a pair of binoculars or a camera, for the summit circle route offers ever new fascinating views! The nature experience changes with the seasons – the blossoms of the alpine rose (»Alm-rausch«) in June/July, yellow larches in autumn – cosy cabins included! Not far from the circular path you will find the »place of reflection«, a wooden sculpture in the shape of a cross that can be walked on (34 *17 metres). Christian architecture at 1750 m above sea level. It is worth a visit! The Planai circular path is a panorama path that is suitable for prams. Various boards offer explanations on the richness of species in the »combat zone« of plants and trees (tree line). Route suggestion, hiking time: Planai cable car summit station eastwards, hiking time about 1 hour. After the tour we suggest a stay at the Schafalm Planai, where you can rest and enjoy the great view of the Dachstein.
Duisitzkarseehütte
"Fünf-Hütten-Weg" the classic type
Beautiful walk, suitable for families up to the Alm region. Duration: about 4 to 5 hours as a round trip. It is possible to take the public bus back to the hotel.
The walk starts with a classic path on the plateau up to the mountain pastures over fields and through forests to the tree line. From the hotel you walk past the school and past Hotel Knollhof to Hotel Lindenhof where you reach the hike with the number 671. At Edelbrunn you can choose if you take the Roseggersteig or the nice forest road to the Austriahütte. On the right side of the glacier cable car station starts the walk to the Südwandhütte. After a small rest you walk down behind the hut to Maralmboden (steep way, only for good hikers). Keep left until you reach Neustadtalm and then Glösalm. After a short rest you walk on to Schlitzenalm and then back to Ramsau Ort, or you take the bus back. Great view of the Dachstein south face and numerous mountain lodges.
Rittisberg trail
This trail is an all-weather family hike to traditional cottages. You start at the foot of the Rittisberg in Schildlehen and take the wide fairy-path up to the Rittisstadl. From here you can walk on to the summit with its cross and then to Ochsenalm. Next you hike on to Sonnenalm where landlord Gerhard will entertain you with his accordion. The last stop on the trail is the Halseralm, here you can enjoy the traditional Kaiserschmarrn or just keep walking until you come to Greimelbacherhof. From here you can either continue to walk to the hotel or take the bus back to the Hotel. In the huts many animals waiting to be stroked. Beautiful view of the Enns Valley, Schladming Tauern and Dachstein.
The DACHSTEIN

The Dachstein Cable Car brings guests not only up the mountain to a height of 2700 meters above sea level, but also directly to a diverse, wonderful winter wonderland.
All of the visitors enjoy the impressive view, which is best seen from the Dachstein Sky Walk – the most spectacular viewing platform in the Alps.
